COATS: UNDEREMPLOYMENT NUMBERS UNACCEPTABLE
Getting Hoosiers Back to Work Should Be Top Priority
INDIANAPOLIS (April 2, 2010) – Dan Coats, candidate for U.S. Senate, released the following statement in response to a Gallup report that underemployment has risen to 20.3 percent:

When it came time to help our struggling economy and get Americans back to work, Democrats instead chose to spend a year passing a job-killing, deficit-inflating massive take-over of our health care system.

“The Obama-Pelosi agenda was put ahead of getting Hoosiers – and Americans – back to work as our economy continued to struggle.

“The Obama-Pelosi solution meant raising taxes on device manufacturers – many of which are located in Indiana – by $20 billion, increasing taxes on pharmaceutical companies by $90 billion, and slipping in a provision to federalize the student loan industry at a potential cost of more than 1,000 Hoosier jobs.

“How do any of those provisions do anything other than hurt our economy during a time of uncertainty and instability?

Sixty-percent of the underemployed are not hopeful about finding a job in the next four weeks. What happened to ‘Hope and Change?’  The only change that has come is a drastic attempt by President Obama to shift us from ‘The Land of the Free, Home of the Brave’ to the ‘Land of the Dependent, Home of the Timid.’”
