Coats: Cong. Ellsworth Should Listen to Overwhelming Majority of Hoosiers; Oppose Individual Mandates in Health Spending Bill

INDIANAPOLIS (June 16, 2010) – Late yesterday, the United States House of Representatives voted on a measure that would have repealed the highly unpopular and unconstitutional individual mandates in the Obama-Pelosi-Ellsworth health spending bill. Incumbent Congressman Brad Ellsworth voted in favor of keeping the legislation intact, therefore signaling his approval yet again for job-killing, deficit-inflating proposals.

“Congressman Ellsworth doubling down on health care shows he is more in touch with the Obama-Pelosi agenda than with the wishes of the Hoosiers he represents,” said Dan Coats, Republican nominee for United States Senate.

A consistent and overwhelming majority of Hoosiers have been opposed to the Obama-Pelosi-Ellsworth health spending bill from the beginning. The most recent poll shows 60 percent of Hoosiers favoring repeal of the entire bill.

Coats added, “As I have traveled around the state one thing has been absolutely clear: Hoosiers are adamantly opposed to this legislation. From the individual mandate, to billions of dollars in new taxes on small businesses and a slashing of Medicare, Hoosiers are concerned about the impact this bill will have on their personal and professional lives.

“The only responsible solution right now is to repeal the Obama-Pelosi-Ellsworth health spending bill and quickly replace it with cost-effective, incremental pieces that will decrease costs, increase coverage and not break the bank.”
